Arvato on its way to an automated future

Driverless superheroes for smooth pallet transportation

In order to remain competitive in the future and to counteract the current shortage of skilled workers, Arvato relies on Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) from Jungheinrich. Thanks to highly efficient cooperation between man and machine, up to 20,000 shipments are handled daily on 400 pallets.

Challenges

  • Drive automation to relieve the increasing internal pallet transport
  • Counteract the shortage of skilled workers through the use of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs)
  • Transport of Euro pallets in both dimensions as well as simultaneous execution of rotary movements
  • Optimal routing of vehicles to minimise empty runs

Solutions

  • Six Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) of the type EKS 215a for automated pallet transport
  • Lithium-ion technology and installation of automatic charging stations
  • Jungheinrich Logistics Interface for holistic processing of logistics orders
  • Modern laser scanners and reflectors for millimetre-precise navigation of the AGV

Successes

  • Efficient interface management with the ability to track pallets in real time
  • Maximum security in mixed operation thanks to extensive safety sensor technology
  • First-time integration of an automatic waste compactor
  • Competent hardware and software support for fast troubleshooting
